TEIN STREET ADVANCE Z4: lift and damping adjustment
TEIN STREET ADVANCE Z4 is a suspension series for selected applications with a ride height increase. This is the key difference from the similarly named series STREET ADVANCE Z: The Z4 concept targets additional vehicle height rather than a lowered body. TEIN specifies roughly 25 millimeters of ride height raise for the standard setting. The actual range depends on the specific vehicle and part number. Additionally, there is a manual damping adjustment with 16 levels. This guide helps you evaluate height change, adjustment options, and installation effort before choosing a set for your vehicle.

Ride height increase instead of lowering: first determine the correct goal
Many customers automatically associate adjustable suspension with lowering. For STREET ADVANCE Z4 this assumption is wrong. The series is intended for the manufacturer-specified ride height increase applications. If you aim for more clearance between body and road surface, you should specify exactly where this clearance is needed. A higher body does not mean every part under the vehicle is raised to the same extent. Axle design, tires, and the position of the lowest component determine the actually usable ground clearance.
The roughly 25 millimeters from the series description are therefore not a universal promise for every vehicle and measurement point. Always compare the data to the part number and the intended base height. Worn or already modified springs can cause the measured difference to deviate from the current state. A workshop should document the starting condition. This way, it can be later verified whether the result fits the intended adjustment range and whether further vehicle changes need to be considered.
Adjusting vehicle height using the spring perch
STREET ADVANCE Z4 uses height adjustment via the spring perch. This changes the position of the spring seat within the designated threaded range. This principle differs from the full-length adjustment of other TEIN suspensions via a separate lower mount. Height, spring position, and usable travel range are interconnected. Therefore, do not adjust the spring perch solely for the desired look. The application-specific dimensions and the installation instructions determine within which range the suspension may be operated.
Even in a raised vehicle, sufficient rebound travel remains important. A suspension must handle movement in both directions. It is not enough to achieve a desired height while stationary. The check includes, among other things, spring guidance, end stops, and freedom of movement during compression and rebound. Threads and locking rings must be adjusted and secured according to instructions. An additional spacer solution from another system must not be combined just because both parts promise ride height increase.
Understanding the 16 damping stages correctly
Damping on STREET ADVANCE Z4 can be adjusted in 16 levels. Compression and rebound damping are controlled together. Compression damping acts during compression, rebound damping during extension. This means one combined adjuster, not two independently adjustable circuits. The commonly used term “hardness adjustable” relates here to the damping characteristic. You do not change the spring rate or vehicle height directly through these clicks.
Start with the intended base setting and keep changes written down. Initially change only one setting and drive under comparable conditions. When height, tire pressure, and damping are changed simultaneously, effects are hard to assign. The highest damping setting is not a general quality mark. A middle position is also not automatically right for every vehicle. The tuning must match the specific set, its installation situation, and your typical use.
Original top mounts and existing wear parts
According to the series description, the original top mounts are reused. This point affects installation preparation: A suspension set does not automatically replace all existing bearings and ancillary parts. Check which parts are actually included and which must be reused. New springs and dampers do not repair a worn top mount. Assess it during installation planning, before a worn component causes noise after the conversion.
The design can differ between front and rear axle. One mount shown in a standard illustration does not guarantee every vehicle specification. Compare the full TEIN part number, installation notes, and original parts listed. Also have dust boots, bump stops, and relevant fasteners checked. Whether a part may be reused or must be replaced depends on condition and installation instructions. A generic shopping list for all Z4 applications would be too inaccurate.
Plan wheels, lines, and axle geometry
A height change can affect the position of suspension components and axle geometry. Therefore, a suitable wheel-alignment check after installation is part of planning. Also consider existing wheel-tire combinations and other modifications. Necessary clearance must remain during steering lock and through the relevant suspension travel. Clearance that seems sufficient when stationary might not be so under movement. This check should be performed by a knowledgeable workshop based on the actual installation situation.
Additional vehicle height is also not an increase in allowable load. Axle loads and vehicle limits remain decisive. The ability to overcome obstacles also depends on more than ride height. Consider the conversion as a coordinated suspension modification and not as a general approval for off-road use. If you have special requirements for payload, trailer operation, or other use, these must be clarified for the specific part before purchase.
Compare STREET ADVANCE Z4 with other series
If you are looking for lowering with adjustable damping, STREET ADVANCE Z is the differently focused concept you can compare for a suitable application. The similar name does not make both series interchangeable. If you want to basically keep original vehicle height and only change damping, EnduraPro PLUS belongs in another comparison. The decisive factor is your conversion goal and the documented application, not the product name order.
Before ordering, manufacturer, model, production period, version, and existing suspension equipment should be clear. Do not simply adopt parts list from another vehicle with the same model name. Engine, drive type, or model revision can be relevant. The selection in the shop helps narrowing; it does not replace notes on the product page. For road legality, the documents for the specific set and your country's requirements must be checked.
Your next steps before ordering
First note why you want to change ride height and which modifications already exist. Then compare the intended adjustment dimensions and scope. Plan installation, possible wear parts, alignment, and required approvals together with price. Keep the part number and documentation of the base setting. This makes later maintenance and adjustment inquiries much more specific.
You can clarify open questions via our contact form with vehicle data and the intended TEIN number. Information about the ordering process can be found under Payment options and Shipping information. Choose STREET ADVANCE Z4 if the lift concept and proven application fit your project. Precise preparation helps you more than the highest possible value for height or damping.
